Destinations

The following list is places that I have been. This is not a complete list some are being omitted because they were just work excursions and I didn’t get a feel of the place and some are omitted due to the fact I don’t remember much about the trip; we will not be getting into why I don’t remember. The plan is for me to mark each one off as I write about it. The list is more or less for me keeping track then for you to wait in anticipation for what I will write next. It has been over 20 years since I have visited some of these places so you are going to get the ramblings of a man remembering his childhood memories on the older one. I am known to embellish a thing or two but for the most part it will be truth but if I start saying something like I slay a dragon with my bare hands then I might be going off the recollection path and into story mode. Isle of Capri Casino: Biloxi

I was picking a buddy up at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and he was hungry and the topic of crab claws was tossed in the air so we went in search for a seafood buffet. I am not going to bash any place on the Gulf Coast for doing construction because Hurricane Katrina did a real number on the area but it’s been a while and the casinos have a lot of money so the area I feel should be in a little better shape than it was. The construction wasn’t the hard to get around it just slowed things down a bit. We wondered around for a bit but we happened upon the Isle of Capri and I guess we got lucky or someone already knew but they had a seafood buffet so we went in. First thing it was confusing to find which way to self parking in the garage. People were turning right in left lanes and nothing appeared to be marked clearly but I did have a couple of guys in the car telling me where to go and we all know how that goes. I have a little car so it was not that hard to find a spot that I could park in but I did go the wrong direction in the garage.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg

I went to Pigeon Forge for a wedding and by extension went to Gatlinburg which is right next to it. I am sure Pigeon Forge is paradise for some people but I totally hated it.  I thought it was overly commercial and not engineered out with any thought.  I saw tons of people walking around but besides shopping I could not figure out what they were doing.  I mean I saw food, motels, hotels and shopping centers and a few tourist things.  I basically drove everywhere I went and that is a huge feat.  I made my way to Dollywood but decided against going in because I am not much of an amusement park kind of guy and it seemed like a huge waste of money just to look around. I decided to drive a bit through the mountain and look for a gift or two.  I did enjoy that but it took me forever to find a secluded place. I went into a pizza place and it looked really good but the wait looked to be a little long so I kept on driving.  I stopped in some junk shop and thought it was quaint but didn’t buy anything, I finally decided that Ruby Tuesdays was the place for me. Yay I know I suck I should have found a small mom and pop but it was really hard to see anything past the gaudy decor of the area. Well that night was pre-party for the wedding and then we headed out on the town.
